Building Community Through Action
At JW3, our vision is of a vibrant, diverse, and unified Jewish community, engaged with Jewish life and contributing to wider society. This summer, our Social Action team has been busy turning that vision into reality, living our mission to create open and welcoming spaces that bring people together through compassion, creativity, and collaboration.
From supporting those in need to creating moments of joy, here are just some of the highlights from May to August:
Foodbank Growth and Family Takeovers
We welcomed dozens of new service users to our Foodbank and trialled our first-ever Family Foodbank Takeover. Families not only packed food parcels but also shared crafts and stories, sparking meaningful conversations about food poverty. The sessions sold out, showing how community and learning can go hand in hand.
Supporting Refugees and New Citizens
Our partnership programmes offered young people and women the chance to cook, share cultures, and find community. From preparing Afghan and Iranian dishes to enjoying a summer film day together, these activities brought creativity and connection into people’s lives.
Music, Healing and Belonging
Through Rest, a unique collaboration with professional musicians, participants cooked and shared food while listening to and even performing live music. For many who have faced displacement, this was a profoundly healing and uplifting experience that embodied the value of community in action.
This summer has shown once again that our values are not just words on a page but a daily practice. Whether through food, music, volunteering, or simply opening our doors, we are building a community where everyone feels included, supported, and empowered to make a difference.
